UNEMPLOYED visually impaired Booysens Park resident Phumla Lawule, 37, got a new lease on life when she received a pair of spectacles from Dr Robert Nettl of the Nettl Eye Foundation, which helps underprivileged, visually impaired people.

"I gave Phumla an eye test and frame, the lenses were donated by Colin Wilson of PE Optical CC," Nettl said.

Phumla's visual problems started when she had to leave school at Grade 3 because she could not see from the board. Lawule is now studying at Nalithuba an adult education and training provider.

Angeline Rensburg, a training co-ordinator at Nalithuba, said Phumla was a shy woman before she got her glasses. "She is confident now and talkative. She just wrote exams and I am confident she that she did great".

"I am very happy. My poor eyesight was holding me back. Even in class I would take long to copy from the board or not copy at all.

"At home I would sit too close to the TV so that I could see. I am very grateful to Nalithuba and to Nettl, What they did for me is extremely wonderful," she said.
