PAUL and Bernadene Adams, parents to Janie, 16, and Alison, 12, who have both served as headgirls at Erica Girls Primary.

The Booysen's Park parents are extremely proud of their daughters and continue to support then in their academic and social endeavours.

Janie who had served as headgirl in 2009 is very proud of her sister who has followed in her footsteps. She notes that they are different individuals as they have different leadership styles.

Janie says she is more vibrant and very firm and her sister is more reserved. She is proud of her sister and is happy about the skills her sister will acquire during her leadership position.

Alison is very excited about being appointed as the headgirl for this year and describes it as the "best opportunity be to a good example to others". She says she welcomes the role and is not under pressure to live up to any expectations because she is aware of what she needs to do and will do so responsibly.

The characteristics Alison prides the most in others are "reliability, good manners and being responsible". This wise young lady stands by the view that one must always put others before oneself.

Their parents say it is important to support children in their interests. They attend events the girls are involved in and ensure that they always ask about what is going on in their lives.

Bernadene says, "children must be guided as best as possible, but they should also learn to be self reliant".

Alison dreams of one day becoming a lawyer or a mathematician. With her enthusiasm and views on reliability- it seems that she is well on her way to realising her goals.
