Sherwood twins take top honours

Mogan Segadavan

THE Wilson twins of Sherwood could very well say "Oops, we did it again" a la Britney Spears.

Megan and Kimberly, 18, have been regularly the first two past the post in the junior women's category in local road races. Their most recent achievement was in the Gelvan AC 15km race in Gelvandale.

Last month Megan, who is older by five minutes, was the second junior female home in the SA 21km championships in East London, and collected the R4000 cash prize.

The sisters, who are in Grade 12 at Collegiate Girls High, both represented the province in diving at the national championships in Bloemfontein in 2010.

While Megan prefers races over 15km and 21.1km, Kimberly prefers the shorter 10km and 15km.

Proud dad Derrick says the girls started doing time trials at the Charlo club when they were about 10 and the bug bit.

Derrick and mom Ela have been members of Charlo AC since 1995. Derrick is a veteran of 17 Comrades and six Two Oceans. Ela completed the last four Comrades with him.

The Wilsons have another daughter, Tanya, 20, a regular finisher in the junior ranks.

Derrick plans to run 25 Comrades before he hangs up his takkies. But before that he dreams of running the Comrades with his family.

He will have to wait for at least two years before that happens – the qualifying age for Comrades is 20.

Step aside Jackson Five, here come the Wilson Five.
