Safe haven for children

WARM summer days offer many outdoor play options for young children.

But when the skies open, the wind starts howling, or the temperature plummets, entertainment options become limited and little angels can quickly turn into little devils after hours of being cooped up in the house.

At times like these the indoor play centre Treasure Land, on the corner of 5th Avenue and Heugh Road, is a godsend for frazzled parents.

Owned by husband-and-wife team Heidi and Adrian Vermaak, the centre has been open since last May and is beautifully decorated in a jungle theme.

Treasure Land is also in the planning stages of adding a baby play area in the complex to accommodate children under two. When completed the centre will cater for 40 children from babies up to seven-year-olds.

Heidi said the idea behind the play centre was to keep children entertained by exploring.

"My husband and I wanted to create a safe place for parents to bring their kids for some fun, and to learn through discovery.”

For the adults, there is a seating area where they can order tea or coffee.

The play centre is adjacent to the Toy Cove toy shop, which is also owned by the couple.

Also connected to the premises is the furniture shop Out of the Woods, which is owned by Heidi’s father.

Treasure Land can also be hired out for parties and small functions for up to 20 children.
