Rich history of northern areas explored

THE Northern Areas History and Heritage Project (NAHHP) is a non-profit initiative administered by a group of concerned individuals and heritage and development practitioners in Nelson Mandela Bay who came together in 2006 to formulate a project aimed at documenting the cultural and historical needs of the northern areas.

Project member Michael Barry says: "NAHHP was specifically established to find innovative solutions through research, debates, dissemination of historical information and vigorous stakeholder engagement. The project further aims to foster synergy by aligning the history and cultural programmes of the northern areas to the existing museums and heritage institutions of the metro."

Project members put together a conference which took place on March 19 and 20 with an extensive programme to explore pressing matters regarding "healing through heritage and memorialisation".
