Pupils make mothers feel appreciated

THERE'S nothing like a mother's love and it is rare that moms are taken care of as they are too busy taking care of everyone else.

On May 10, Gelvandale Primary School pupils put together a Mother's Day extravaganza to show mothers how much they mean to them.

"I am very excited because it is the first time in my life that I've been spoilt like this. I am here because of my granddaughter, Chardonne Cornelius. Thank you for making me feel so special," Valer Smale said.

The pupil councillors, assisted by their teachers, Elaine Frans (convener), Adele Hillier and Sandra Human, worked tirelessly to make the day successful.

Frans invited Sharon O'Brien to teach pupils the basic techniques for performing facials, manicures and head, neck and shoulder massages.

"We were blessed with her unselfish assistance and kindness," Frans said.

The pampering took place on the Gelvandale Primary School premises and organisers worked hard to create the perfect ambience.

The councillors decorated classrooms, played calming music and lit some sweet-smelling incense sticks.

There was a positive turnout, with 60 mother figures in attendance.

"It feels wonderful. It is my first time. I love the effort that was put into the day," Dianne Terblanche, one of the grandmothers, said.

Norma Anderson, who was also pleasantly surprised said, "My face was pampered in a way that I have never experienced before. The massaging was also very well done.

"As for the old hands, they now feel like new ones. I can use them to work harder at home. Thanks for your time. God bless you. I love you."
