RODNEY Prins led from start to finish to win the third and final trail run organised by the Malabar Athletic Club in the Van Der Kemps Kloof Nature Reserve in Bethelsdorp on Saturday.

The first in the series was held at Cape Recife and the second at Schoenmakerskop.

The trail run started close to the Alms houses in the historical village, proceeding into the Kloof, before winding its way through grasslands and an array of aloes with magnificent views over the city. Prins finished the 10-mile course (16.1km) in 58:45, eight minutes ahead of Freddie Jantjies.

With Prins missing the first leg, Morgan Campbell who finished in the top five claimed the series prize. In the women's category, Tracy Almiral completed the hat-trick to claim the series prize. She finished in 1:21:40 with veteran Treloar Childs taking second place in 2:00:15.

Brian Saunders who was second last week finished first in the 18th Hobie Beach parkrun on Saturday. He was followed home by Darren Benecke and Matthew Wilson who were participating in the weekly run for the first time. In the women's category, Linda Blandford finished ahead of Elmarie Botha and Carmel Gajjar.

Although the parkrun which is an international event is not a race, participants are timed to enable them to chart their progress. Entry is free.

Locally an average of 183 participants of all ages have taken part in the parkrun since its inception in August.
