THE residents of Annesley Gardens in Narcissus Street, Linton Grange finally have something to smile about.
After years of trying to get a few trees planted in the park next to the complex their wish was granted.
The driving force (to get trees planted), Annette Augustyn, said the park did not have a single tree.
“We keep taking the birds’ homes away from them and don’t give them new places to nest so we need these trees.”
Last week five new trees were planted including three coral trees and two yellowwood type trees.
“We are going to have to water the trees until they are bigger but that’s fine with me,” said Augustyn.
The municipality planted the trees last week and have watered them to give the young trees which are barely two metres high a start.
Ward 9 councillor Heinrich Muller said he is glad that the trees have finally been planted. He added that after dealing with one person at the municipality, the ball got rolling pretty quickly and the trees were planted.
“The trees will make a good addition to the park for all visitors – both birds and humans.”
