New vehicle needed

SOS Children's Villages is an independent, non-governmental, social development organisation that provides family based care for children, especially those who are orphaned.

The SOS Children's Village, in Schauderville, needs a new vehicle desperately. In the interests of their children's safety, their mini bus kombi had to be grounded due to the extensive wear and tear.

SOS Children's fundraiser, Mandy Spies, said the organisation has been battling to meet the transportation needs of over 600 children in their residential care and community based programmes.

Spies said: "Not having a roadworthy vehicle is severely impacting on our ability to reach all our beneficiaries. About 50 children need to be dropped off and collected from more than 15 different schools in the Bay daily."

In addition to the residential care programme, which currently provides for 100 children, Spies said the organisation also catered to 500 children in community-based programmes. She said this was only possible through the ongoing support of donors.

"We are appealing to anyone who could assist us with the sponsorship of a new passenger vehicle to help us get our little ones to school, to sports activities and to clinics. "

The organisation's residential care programme provides 24-hour support, seven days a week, with each child's needs catered for within a homely living space that promotes holistic development.
