National VP hockey star has Rio in sight

A VICTORIA Park High School hockey player has again been chosen to represent his country.
Grade 11 pupil, Winchester Scott was selected for the South African U18 squad recently. He has previously played in the U16 and U17 national teams.
His selection came after being chosen for the Eastern Province U18 team that played in the inter-provincial tournament in Johannesburg. He then attended the Men’s Eastern Province trials where he said he “played with all his heart, passion and ability” and was selected to play for the A side.
“I feel deeply honoured and extremely proud of my achievements,” said Winchester.
The striker is an imposing force up front for both his school and province and enjoys scoring goals for his team.
Winchester attended Frank Joubert Primary School in Shauderville and started playing hockey at the tender age of six, falling in love with the sport from the word go.
“I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be a top SA hockey player,” he said.
He now has his hopes on being chosen for Team SA when the next Olympic Games take place in Rio in 2016. – Daryn Wood
