I never thought it would happen to me

Stop the Addiction! By

ANCILLA RAUBENHEIMER

THIS was a father’s response when he had to take his son to a rehabilitation centre.

Drugs do not discriminate against race, religion or status, it can happen to anyone.

It is difficult for us as parents to understand and accept that our children would use drugs and often enough we ignore, or do not accept the inevitable.

However, the more you are not ready to face the drug problem, the longer your child will continue taking drugs.

Drugs control the user by deceiving him/her into wanting more and trying stronger drugs against their will.

Drug users do have preferences. Some will use uppers like cocaine, ecstasy and crack, others downers like alcohol, dagga and mandrax , and then there are those who prefer the hallucinogens.

A bad trip can haunt the addict for the rest of his/her life, with flashbacks and recurring dreams.

Drugs affect the whole body, from the brain, teeth, skin, bones, muscles and organs.

As mentioned before they also affect the addict’s behavioural, social, emotional, economical, physical and spiritual wellbeing as well.

It has further been said that one addict has an effect on the lives of 15 other people.

Do not ignore it and hope it will go away. IT WON’T.
