Housing a major issue

THE rectification of houses is the major plight of the residents within ward 12, especially those living in Malabar extension 6.

Since 2003 we have been struggling with this issue.

And it was amplified this month with the heavy rain we experienced.

From the time these houses were built the buildings were of substandard quality. And now we are really suffering the consequences with residents queuing outside my office daily, all of their belongings soaked.

And to top this off many of them still rely on the bucket system or don’t have toilets at all.

This causes major problems when it is raining as they simply cannot go to the bush in wet conditions.

It is unsanitary and no one should have to live like that.

I have managed to obtain the docket ensuring that the municipality will be addressing the issue.

I have also insisted that an Environmental Impact Assessment team be sent out to the area to analyse the situation.

Once this is done we will be able to move forward and apply more pressure on the municipality to speed up the process.

I refuse to allow residents to have to suffer in these conditions and I assure them I am doing all in my power to make sure the situation is resolved as quickly as possible.
