Hockey star still shining

IF THE epitome of sporting spirit is to have represented one's country in a world event, then former South African hockey player, Clyde Abrahams can easily be referred to as the model athlete.

The 34-year-old from Gelvandale recently participated in the Iron Man triathlon to test his endurance.

"This was my first full Iron man, so I learnt a lot and know where to improve."

After a 10-year run in the South African men's hockey team, Abrahams retired in 2008 to focus on his family and work, but continues to play club hockey for Lakeside Cavaliers hockey club. During the course of his career, Abrahams went to four Africa Games and Africa Cup events, two World Cups, three Commonwealth Games, and the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
