GELVAN Hockey Club honoured its achievers at a glittering function at the Bayworld Conference on Saturday.
Guest of honour Reese Telling enthralled guests with his heart-warming life story.
He spoke of his rise to fame as a promising cricketer which saw him rub shoulders with the likes of current Protea skipper AB de Villiers, and coming on as 12th man for the national team.
After an injury sidelined him he joined the high-rollers until he ended up penniless and a drug addict. He then turned to a life of crime to fuel his addiction and spent time in prison.
But after a spell in rehab he turned his life around and is now a sough-after motivational speaker and cricket coach at the Gelvandale Cricket Club Centre of Excellence.
