History for family

THERE is a very special father-daughter team in Westering High School this year.

Lauren Mace is the headgirl of Westering High School this year, 29 years after her father, Quentin, was headboy of the same school in 1984.

He says it was a very proud moment when he heard that his twin daughters, Lauren and Shelby Mace, were elected as prefects at the same school he attended. It was extra special and a highly emotional moment when he heard Lauren's name being called as head girl.

He says: "I thoroughly enjoyed my year as headboy, but I think Lauren has a busy year ahead as the head prefects nowadays face many more challenges than we faced."

His advice to Lauren would be to try and treat all fellow pupils and teachers with respect and try to be fair and just at all times.

"Lead by example and despite your responsibilities, have fun and enjoy the wonderful opportunity you have been blessed with. Seek the Lord's guidance each day and you can't go wrong!" is the advice Quentin offers his daughter.

Lauren feels very blessed to be given the opportunity to be headgirl.

She is enjoying it so far, mainly because she is working closely with 27 other amazing prefects. She says: "My aim for the year is to set a good example for our fellow pupils to follow. Mikhail Cain [the headboy] and I are very proud of our school and only want the very best for it".

She said the secret to a successful high school career is to participate and get involved as much as possible. It's the best way to meet new people, have fun and make memories.
