GELVAN Park Primary’s Lucan Moos was crowned the king of his peers during this year’s Mr Eastern Cape Teen Junior contest at the Vodacom Amphitheatre at the Boardwalk on March 21.

Organised by Sophisticate Models the contest had different age-group categories. Lucan won the title for the 11-14 year age group.

A confident 11-year old, Lucan said he is enjoying the attention he is getting after winning the competition.

"Girls want to be around me and hug me – that is a nice feeling.”

He won a trophy and put his R250 prize money towards purchasing a PlayStation2 console.

Though he was victorious at his first modelling contest Lucan wants to be a doctor, but at the same time "I want to continue modelling”.

"My mother is the one who said I should try modelling out. She told me to keep on trying until I get a modelling contract,” said the Grade 6 pupil.

Earlier this month he was the second runner-up during the King and Queen of Port Elizabeth contest.

"I won a modelling course voucher from Community Models and some other vouchers,” Lucan said.

His father, Claude, said he was proud of his son’s achievement.

"He rocked the show,” said the proud father.

"It was the first time he entered a competition and he won. He is a very confident child and I am very proud of him,” Claude said.

Lucan’s class teacher, Eric Jacobs described him as a confident boy.

"He has a sort of shy appeal, but is confident at the same time, and he listens in class.

"He is enjoying the moment. This can only be good for him. It definitely builds him.

"What is nicer is the joy on his face,” Jacobs said.
