Don't miss out on Uncle Jumbo

CHILDREN can look forward to an evening of fun and excitement with Noddy and all his friends at the ever popular Uncle Jumbo's Christmas Party.

Arranged by charity organisation Rotaract, Uncle Jumbo's has been running for over 50 years and will take place from November 24 to December 8, excluding Sundays and Mondays, at the Featherbank Farm in Charlo.

"It's a farmyard-style Christmas show and farmer Uncle Jumbo hosts it. He has a castle and invites Noddy and his friends from Toyland to get involved in the fun," Rotaract Club co-president Madeleine Smuts said.

There will be clowns played by local high school volunteers who will also look after kids and join the show. Noddy will bring chips and cooldrinks and Tinkerbell will bring sweets from Neverland.

"Parents can picnic on hay bales around the arena and we are having a brand new castle made this year," Smuts said.

Children will get to march behind the Boys Brigade Marching Band who are regular performers at the party.

The main attraction for most children will be getting a gift from Father Christmas, provided by parents, which Smuts suggested should be small.

"Trying to fit 200 bicycles and easy-bake ovens into Santa's bags is no easy feat."

A portion of raised funds will go towards an evening for disabled and underprivileged children.

Over and above the usual sweets, chips and cooldrinks given out, they will also get dinner and a gift from Santa.

Smuts said the charity night was her favourite part of Uncle Jumbo's.

"When you see the joy in those eyes and the smiles, it makes all the endless hours and sleepless nights worth it.

"The first time the marching band plays is also a big teary-eyed moment for all of us. At that point we realise that the planning is over and we have two weeks ahead of us which we have worked so hard for."

The rest of the funds raised will go to Rotaract's various projects that they run throughout the year.

The show starts at 6.30pm and gates open at 6pm. Tickets are available at Computicket at R40 for adults and R50 for children up to the age of 12.
