THE organisers of the sixth Sunridge Village Family road race next Saturday are expecting another bumper event.
Last year the metro’s most popular family race organised by the Port Elizabeth Amateur Athletic Club drew more than 2000 competitors.
In addition to the 10km for the serious runners there is the 5km run/walk with several fun categories including prizes for first family home, parent and pram, dad and dog, and mom and tot.
This fun filled family event offers fantastic hampers, lucky draws and some major prizes. These include a R2500 shopping experience from Sunridge SuperSpar.
“Although an official EPA Road Running event, the run/walk caters for the whole family with distances of both 5km and 10km,” said Suzanne Fincham, centre manager at Sunridge Village Shopping Centre. “The school with the most bulk entries in the 5km race will win R1000, so we encourage all schools to participate.”
Results will be available for both the 10km and 5km events.
For the first time the first 1000 pre-entries will receive a Sunridge Village event T-shirt. Pre-entries can be done at all major sport shops in the metro as well as Despatch Spar.
If the organisers achieve their target of 2500 competitors the race will be one of the biggest 10km events in the metro.
Festivities kick off at 5pm on Friday, May 18 with pre-registration in the mall at Sunridge Village Shopping Centre situated on Kragga Kamma Road in Sunridge Park.
Various stores at the centre will be manning the water points, with a watering hole for pets at the first water point.
Prize-giving will take place directly after the race. There will be cash prizes for various age categories as well as a gold, silver or bronze medals for all participants. Lucky draw prizes are attendance prizes.
Entry forms are available at all shops at Sunridge Village Shopping Centre, Despatch Spar, as well as sports shops in Nelson Mandela metro.
Special arrangements have been made for additional parking in the park at Camelia Avenue off Aster Avenue close to the centre.
