Athletes to enjoy scenic view while tackling run

THE 10km Two Views Challenge organised by the Charlo Athletic Club next Saturday offers runners a unique view, if they have the energy to stop and admire it.

The race which starts at the Italian Club in Harold Road, Charlo will take runners through Mount Pleasant up to the top of the hill in Lovemore Heights and back. The scenic run incorporates two panoramic views – one of the sea stretching out towards Sardinia Bay and the other of the whole city bowl in the east. Taking a leaf out of cycling, organisers are offering a special prize for the King and Queen of the Mountain – the first male and female runner to reach the top of Greenways. For the less energetic there will also be a 5km run/walk.

Entry forms are available at all sports shops in the metro. Entry at the shops closes at 5pm on Wednesday.

Pre-entry numbers collection and late entries will be accepted at the Italian Club on Friday between 5pm and 7pm and on the morning of the race from 5.30am.

Entry fee is R30 for the 10km and R20 for the 5km. Unlicensed runners will pay an additional R25 for the 10km only.

The 10km race gets under way at 7am and the 5km at 7.20am.

In addition to cash prizes in the various age-categories there will be the usual lucky draw. Prize-giving starts at 9am.
