THE two suburbs were plaqued recently by a spate of metal drain-cover thefts. This was such a concentrated occurrence – 25 covers over two days – that it can only be attributed to an organised syndicate.

Subsequently the suburbs of Richmond Hill, Summerstrand, Newton Park, Kabega and Linton Grange also experienced similar thefts.

Residents are requested to phone Lt Eberson on 082-442-2253 should they observe any tampering with drain covers.

This is our money being stolen from us to enrich the unscrupulous scrap dealers!

The high winds experienced recently covered all the gutters with leaves and branches, leaving the area looking very untidy. I have arranged for a team of street sweepers to clear up and already things are looking a lot better.

Speeding remains a problem, especially in Wares Road and around the Grey schools complex. Law enforcement has been arranged to try and control the errant motorists.

Recently a debate has started in the ward about the merits or otherwise of speed humps, and whether we should construct some on the main feeder roads in the area. The jury is still out on this, but unfortunately the poor driving habits of some motorists might lead to having more of the "hated humps" in the area.

The problem of the beggars at the top of Target Kloof remains a hot topic of discussion.

To give or not to give, that is the question!

The majority feeling is that residents don't want this unsightly commune in the area.

Unfortunately, kind-hearted motorists make the intersection a very lucrative one and as long as it remains that, the beggars/vagrants will remain.
