A SPORTS club from Port Elizabeth received a helping hand from some good Samaritans after they were given a sizeable donation of cycling equipment.
Vukani Multi Sports Club members were all smiles on Friday after the gear was handed over to them at the Herald offices.
In an initiative by the Herald VW Cycle Tour social media team, collection bins were set up at various cycle shops in Port Elizabeth where cyclists could drop off any gear they no longer used.
The project ran from January 21 to February 10.
This is the first time a project of this nature has been undertaken and the organisers hope it will blossom into a regular feature of the cycle tour.
Times Media marketing intern Sindiswa Mpontsi said they worked with the cycle shops throughout the cycle tour period.
“There has always been a great relationship and they were more than happy to open their doors for this campaign,” Mpontsi said.
Team Vukani official Luvuyo Bangazi said the team were excited about this campaign.
“This gesture goes a long way in paving the path for young cyclists,” Bangazi said.
“Thanks go to the Herald and all the passionate cyclists who contributed.
“This is a demonstration of the commitment and passion for development of the sport by our locals.”
