Chippa loss ‘frustrating’

After a superb win against Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United failed to keep the momentum going when they lost 1-0 to Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

A late strike from Jabulani Maluleke of Polokwane saw Chippa record their fifth defeat in the league this season.

Despite the loss, the Port Elizabeth side remain 10th on the log with 13 points from 12 games.

Chippa coach Dan Malesela said what was more frustrating about the loss was some of the referee’s decisions.

“I am trying very hard not to complain about other things but you are tempted to raise your concern,” Malesela said.

“If what was a deemed as a foul when the goal was scored is a foul, really which tackle is meant to be clean?

“Everybody needs to look at themselves to say: ‘Am I really doing my job very well?’

“If we all do our jobs, well then football will progress.”

Malesela said his players had deserved at least a point from the game.

“I told the players at half time: ‘Look this is a match where we lose or win by a small margin.

“Or we can decide to draw. If we get a draw that is fine as well.

“Unfortunately what happened happened and it’s a duplicate of last season.”

The Chilli Boys have two more games before the closure of the first leg of the league.

Their next encounter is against Highlands Park at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London tomorrow, before they travel to Cape Town to play Ajax.
