Mayoral Cup final for Madibaz, Old Grey

Madibaz 1 and Old Grey will contest the T20 Mayoral Cricket Cup final under lights at St George’s Park on Saturday from 6pm.

Both semifinals of all the competition’s matches were contested at Old Muir 1 in Uitenhage yesterday.

In the first match of the playoffs, Mecer Madibaz 1 beat newly-promoted Motherwell by 81 runs.

Young Kyle Jacobs was superb for the students, making 52 with the bat and then taking two for seven with the ball.

Anru Emiljo made an unbeaten 52 to help Madibaz make 166 for three.

Motherwell could only manage 88 for eight in reply.

In the afternoon fixture, Seaman’s Renault Old Grey saw off the challenge presented by hometeam Buco Uitenhage.

Old Grey batted first and racked up 132 for seven, with Michael Hansel scoring 45.

Buco Uitenhage could only manage 114 for seven in reply, giving Old Grey an 18-run win.

Daryn Korkie was pick of their bowlers, taking two for 20.
