Grey High’s first cricket team enjoyed a successful stint at the Cape Schools Week in Cape Town going unbeaten over the three days.
Against Wynberg, Grey batted first and scored a very good 279/8 with Matthew Breetzke (66), Campbell de Wet (67), Dylan Smith (52) and Nic Fowler (21no) getting among the runs.
Wynberg scored 169/4 but after a reasonable start closed up shop on a flat wicket after they lost early wickets.
Breetzke and De Wet then featured again in a good win against Paarl Boys.
Grey bowled Paarl Boys out for 158 after a devastating spell from De Wet, who took 5/46.
De Wet wreaked havoc on the top order and they were four wickets down for only six runs in the first five overs.
Dylan Smith followed up with a controlled spell of bowling to return figures of 4/17.
Grey passed the score with only one wicket down and Breetzke scoring 110 not out, his 16th hundred for the first team.
He was well supported by Jarryd Lookwhy, with an unbeaten 38.
It was a very disciplined performance. In the remaining game, Grey beat Rondebosch by nine wickets.
Rondebosch were restricted to 198/7.
Sean Callaghan took 2/29 and Lutho Siphamla, De Wet, Lookwhy and Fowler all grabbed a wicket each.
Grey chased the score with only one wicket down.
Breetzke scored 100 not out and Lookwhy was on 42 not out.
Ben Dryden also scored 42 and his partnership with Breetzke was very important.
