Chiefs find mojo

Three wins in a row brings a hint of confidence to Kaizer Chiefs as was the case last night in their 2-0 Premier Soccer League victory against Free State Stars.

Willard Katsande's opener from the penalty spot in the 10th minute put Chiefs in the lead at James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney and Mitchell Katsvairo steered in a second in the 64th.

Never an easy side to beat, Stars under caretaker-coach Themba Sithole, were always likely to put up a fight against a steadily improving Amakhosi.

Chiefs came to earn a crucial three points in any manner necessary as they inched towards some sort of form.

They battled against an energetic Stars who fought for every ball in the first half. In the second, Steve Komphela's men managed to find some rhythm to their game.

Mark Gleeson reports from KwaMashu, Durban, that Lamontville Golden Arrows missed out on setting a new club record last night as they squandered a late penalty and were held to a 1-1 home draw by a 10-man SuperSport United at Princess Magogo Stadium.

Arrows went behind SuperSport but pulled level and were handed an advantage when full-back Onismor Bhasera was red-carded in the 66th minute.

Arrows share top spot on the table with Kaizer Chiefs and have high hopes of a successful season.

SuperSport almost caught out Arrows goalkeeper Maxamilian Mbaeva with a curling corner from Thuso Phala. But he was beaten three minutes later when Phala played an accurate pass through the middle on to Kingstone Nkhatha who went round the keeper and tucked it away.

SuperSport's lead lasted 15 minutes before they got caught in a set piece. Wayde Jooste's kick deflected off Reneilwe Letsholonyane, fell at the back post for Lerato Lamola to hit across the face of goal, and allowed Arrows' Musa Bilankulu to slide in at the near post.
