Schoeman, Du Toit net Tough One

Anriette Schoeman and Yolandi du Toit successfully defended their Isuzu Trucks PE2Plett MTB four stage race title, also known as the Tough One, at the weekend.

The Tough One kept up to its promise this year with four days of rain, muddy roads and tracks and a very tough route.

To make the situation worse, Schoeman, of Africa Silks-Bestmed, had a stomach bug that nearly forced her to retire from the race at the finish of day two.

Schoeman and Du Toit, of Garmin, managed to triumph in all four stages to successfully defend their title for the race.

On day four, Schoeman was her natural smart self again and took the Queen-of-the-Mountain title.

Schoeman will also defend her Makro Bestmed Cycle Tour title for the 16th time this coming weekend.

Last year, she won both the road race and the MTB race.

The Makro Bestmed Cycle Tour and MTB Tour – with family fun rides and hosted by Lorraine Primary and NMMU – starts from Lorraine Primary on Saturday and Sunday.
