The first thing that strikes you when speaking to new EP Cricket chief executive Mark Williams is his obvious passion to restore the club game to its rightful place in the community.
Having grown up in the northern areas, Williams played both cricket and soccer at club level in his formative years. He has club sport running through his veins and is aware of how it has been limping along for some time now.
He believes it is time for change and that EP Cricket must be the conduit for change at both club and school levels.
The 49-year-old understands and accepts the professional Warriors and amateur Eastern Province teams’ need to win competitions and the transformation of cricket are priority agenda items.
But Williams also feels there is a need to tap back into the vital base levels of cricket to restore the culture of playing the game.
