Newly signed Chippa United player Tshwarelo Bereng says South African soccer lovers will witness something special from the Chilli Boys in the Premier Soccer League this season.
Bereng, 25, was on the list of players unveiled by the Port Elizabeth soccer team last month.
The attacking midfielder said the new-look team would bring something unique to the league.
“South African soccer lovers must stay tuned, as they can expect to see something different from what they have seen in the PSL before.
“We bring something different in terms of our playing style.”
The former Cape Town All Stars and Moroka Swallows player is thrilled to be making a return to PSL, after spending last season in the National First Division at All Stars.
“I have been in the premier league before. This is more like a comeback for me. It’s an opportunity for me to pull myself up again,” he said.
“This time around I would like to get a medal, I would like to win a cup and I would like us to dominate in the PSL.
“I would like to be the player who creates goal opportunities for us to win matches.
“I believe with the squad we have, it is possible.”
Bereng said coach Dan “Dance” Malesela had installed a positive mindset and a sense of self-belief among the players.
Chippa recently returned from their three-week pre-season camp which saw the squad spend two weeks in Durban and a week in Johannesburg.
As part of their preparation the team took part in a number of friendly matches.
The midfielder said the games were to evaluate the team’s progress and also to help Malesela find the right combinations.
The Chilli Boys also welcome back top striker Rhulani Manzini, 28, who missed the last five games of last season due to injury.
The player said he had recovered fully and was looking forward to the new season.
“I struggled a bit when we came back for the pre-season, but now I am happy with my level of fitness,” he said.
“I scored four goals last season and this season I want to reach double figures and with the help of my teammates and technical team this is possible.
Chippa kick off their league campaign against Free State Stars at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday (7.30pm).
Next Saturday, they travel to Rustenburg to face Platinum Stars in the MTN 8 knockout stage at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
