‘Rampant Lions don’t scare us’

Defiant Kings looking forward to scrum challenge

Faced by a dominant Lions team who have been heavily backed to give them a hiding, the defiant Southern Kings have remained stoically undaunted in the face of increasing adversity.

Burly Kings prop Jacobie Adriaanse says his team, despite the odds being stacked against them, are looking forward to the challenge of an intense physical battle against a formidable Lions pack at Ellis Park tonight.

The experienced Adriaanse will be packing down against a Lions scrum that has laid the platform for an impressive winning streak that has left the Johannesburg team at the top of the Super Rugby table.

“The Lions are certainly have one of the better scrums in the competition and for us forwards that is the sort of team you want to measure yourself against,” Adriaanse said.

“At training this week we have worked hard to keep within our systems and we are ready for the challenge. Each week is a new challenge and we must be switched on for every game and every scrum.

“We have been working on our skills on how to nullify the Lions pack under our forwards coach Barend Pieterse. The Kings are looking forward to physical battle between the forwards.”

With pundits like former Springbok Naas Botha predicting that the Kings will be on the receiving end of a big hammering, stand-in skipper Edgar Marutlulle will have to ensure that the resolve of his team does not falter.
