Support coach, says Motaung

KAIZER Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung has argued that it is not right to judge Steve Komphela on his first season at the club.

By their standards, Amakhosi have had such a bad season that Motaung has conceded even finishing “second would be great”. Chiefs are set to finish the season empty-handed.

“Chincha Guluva” has dropped a strong hint that Komphela will retain his job for next season. Instead, he believes it is the squad that needs improving.

“Our supporters are spoilt and when you lose one or two games, you are not good enough,” Motaung said yesterday.

While the team is struggling, Motaung expects Chiefs fans to show their support.

“You cannot tell me that Man United supporters today won’t go to the stadium because they are not challenging for the league.

“There are teams that are right at the bottom of the [English] Premiership and when they play games, the stadiums are full,” he said.

“It is a question of culture – whether the supporters want to go to the stadiums and support their teams or they want to go to the stadium to make demands, like tell the coach who to play. Our culture is different in South Africa.
