No need to shop, says Chippa boss

With the Absa Premier Soccer League transfer window approaching fast, many clubs will dip into the market to beef up their teams ahead of the league’s second round.

Chippa United chairman Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi said he did not see a real need to shop around, but he might consider signing one or two players yet, when the transfer window opens next month.

“Our aim is not to go too deep into the market,” Mpengesi said.

“Since we have sold many players, the coach has never really found a team that is consistent.

“It’s only now that the players are starting to gel.

“Maybe a cover for one or two, but really I do not think there is a crisis for us to go shopping right now.”

Asked if there were any clubs interested in signing some of his Chippa players, Mpengesi said he would only be able to answer that question at a later stage.

However, he said there were clubs that had shown an interest in some of his charges, but he could not disclose any info with regards to who the players are and which teams.

“We have good players. Every club will want to have these types of players,” he said.

The Chilli Boys have already made sure that they hold on to two key players, Rhulani Manzini and Thamsanqa Sangweni, by extending their contracts until June 2020.

Their contracts were due to expire at the end of the 2016-17 season.

“We are delighted to have reached agreements with both Thamsanqa Sangweni and Rhulani Manzini,” Mpengesi said.

“They are important for our ambitions. The extension shows our ambition, as a club, to continue to grow and challenge for honours.

“I would like to thank both players’ management for their professionalism during the negotiations.

“We are excited to have both stars staying with us long-term,” he said.
