Chiefs win ‘should help Chippa bounce back’

Chippa United shot stopper Zama Dlamini believes the win against Kaizer Chiefs is just what the team needed for them to bounce back to their winning ways in the Premier Soccer League. But the former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper said to keep the momentum going, the team also needed to stop conceding unnecessary goals. The Port Elizabeth side produced a brave performance, coming from 1-0 down to score three goals in the second half, beating the Amakhosi 3-1 on Saturday. The victory was only Chippa’s third win of the season. “We needed a big win because we had gone eight games without a victory,” Dlamini said. “We really needed the win so that it could boost our confidence.

“We must stop conceding goals. We need to concentrate on that. Our focus had been on scoring and now we have three goals. If we can stop conceding we will be fine, but we are working on that. As goalkeepers we do not like to concede.” Chippa have a week’s rest before their next league match against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday. Dlamini said the break would help the team to work on areas that needed to be fixed ahead of the game. “The supporters must continue to support us. We appreciate their support. They must know that we are trying our best on the field. “I guess when they come to the stadium they can see that. The win against Chiefs also brought back the joy to our supporters.” The Chilli Boys are now 10th on the log with 13 points from 11 matches.
