Chippa in search of redemption

CHIPPA United players will be eager to redeem themselves against Highlands Park in the Telkom Knockout on Friday night, attacking midfielder Menzi Masuku says. Dan “Dance” Malesela’s troops will be out to get their confidence levels back after losing 1-0 to Golden Arrows in a Premier Soccer League fixture at the weekend. The defeat was the Port Elizabeth club’s first this season. Masuku, 26, who joined Chippa at the start of the season from Orlando Pirates, says winning the Telkom Knockout would be a great reward – not for just the team but for the supporters as well. “We are looking forward to winning the Telkom cup,” Masuku said. “It would be nice if we could win this one after losing out in the MTN8. “In soccer, there is always pressure. There is pressure to perform well for your own sake and even pressure to do well for the fans. “As a club, we want to make our fans happy – and also grow the Chippa brand. “It is therefore important for us to redeem ourselves after losing to Mamelodi Sundowns.” The Chilli Boys missed out on an early chance of silverware this season after being knocked out in the MTN8 semifinal by The Brazilians. Chippa’s journey in the Telkom Knockout series last season was cut short after they were beaten 2-0 by Sundowns in the first round. This season they will be expected to do better after their brave performance in the MTN8 event.
