Sharks savage EP Kings with 53-0 win on waterlogged field

Durban's shark tank has not proved to be a happy hunting ground for the struggling Kings in both Super Rugby and the Currie Cup this year.

In May, the Kings were mauled 53-0 in a Super Rugby clash and on Saturday the Sharks beat them by the identical score in a Currie Cup match.

In their latest visit to the shark tank, Kings leaked nine tries on a water logged pitch after heavy rain in Durban.

Things will not get any easier this weekend for the Kings when they face the title-challenging Lions at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Ahead of the clash, Kings coach Barend Pieterse expressed the opinion that the water-soaked field might be an equaliser, but the Sharks mastered the conditions to run out easy winners after opening a 24-0 lead at half time.

Kings skipper Ricky Schroeder said his team would now concentrate on their next game against the Lions.

“Literally in the Shark Tank today you had to get a wet-suit on to play rugby, but all credit to the Sharks and their captain Chilli boy Ralepelle because they were clinical in these conditions,” Schroeder said.

“Discipline let us down. First of all we made a few errors and they capitalized on them, and good sides will do that no matter what the conditions are.

“We are a team that is driven with passion, and we are going through the process. . . building towards something.

“We will take a good look in the week ahead and see where we can rectify things. I’m still proud of the guys.”
