Uitenhage-born Lusapho April says his hill training in Hogsback will stand him in good stead when he competes at the Rio Olympics next Sunday.

April arrived in Brazil on Wednesday and wasted no time as he took to the road for a run to loosen up his legs.

The two-time Two Oceans halfmarathon winner is determined to dramatically improve on his effort at the London Olympics in 2012, where he placed 43rd.

He has an entire week to familiarise himself with his surrounds.

April said having trained at one of the hilliest parts of the Eastern Cape would give him an upper hand, as they would be running on the cycling course, which is a bit steep in parts.

He will compete with fellow South African marathon runners, including Stephen Mokoka, Sibusiso Nzima and Lungile Gongqa.
