Kings go to ground as fire builds

AN EARLY “iron curtain” has been dropped around the Southern Kings as their Super Rugby preparations start to build up a head of steam.

Supporters will not be able to glean much about the make-up of the Kings after officials decided to shut the doors on their preparations for their session against the Madibaz on Friday.

So far the Kings have only had two open training sessions and viewing time has been restricted to only 30 minutes on each occasion.

Kings coach Deon Davids says the Madibaz workout will be a “controlled contact session” as both teams bid to build up a head of steam ahead of Super Rugby and the Varsity Cup.

The Kings media office said the Madibaz training outing would be closed because the match on Friday is not an official warm-up but just a first physical contact clash.

No team will be named to face the Madibaz and rolling subs will be used.

The Southern Kings have announced three more player signings.
