THE second race of the Tri-A-Fun Series, which has become the talk of the triathlon community, will be hosted by the Eastern Province Triathlon Association (EPTA) on Sunday at Summerstrand.

The event has been given a boost, in particular for the juniors, ahead of what will be the final triathlon this summer, according to EPTA committee member Alec Riddle.

“The second event will see medals being awarded to all finishers and gold, silver and bronze to the top three during the series in various categories,” Riddle said.

“One of the spectators and parents at our first event, Hedley McGrath, came forward and offered to sponsor medals for the series winners and finishers of the second event on April 12.

“I am sure that all the triathletes participating, in particular the beginners and juniors, will be thrilled.”

The Tri-A-Fun Series offers two events, one for adults and one for juniors, which can be entered individually or as a team of two or three.

The junior race has a 400m swim, a 10km cycle and a 2.5km run. The relay event is proving popular among scholars.

Many top juniors will be in action, including Jamie Riddle and Kris-Mari Voges, winners of the first Tri-a-Fun Series.

Other top juniors will include Munro Munnik, Kyle Flanagan, Aidan Baker, Runaldo Pedro, and Matthew van Wyk, as well as Chelsea Cooke and Jenna Parry.

The top boy and girl in the series will win a pair of Adidas running shoes.

In addition to the category prizes and medals, there are lucky draw prizes, including a mountain bike, a wetsuit, a set of fitted shocks and hampers.

Entries cost R100 a child or R180 a team and R200 an adult or R360 a team. EASTERN Province’s squash juniors continue to shine at national level with nine players from the region being chosen for a tour of Malaysia next month.

The nine are part of a squad of 40 for the overseas trip.

Furthermore, three Border players – Mikaela Boy and Teagan Roux (U16), and Inge Coetzee (U19) – have been included in the squad, underlining the healthy state of affairs
