Highbury, Bucks victorious

HIGHBURY FC continued their run of wins, thrashing Zimbane Killers FC 3-0 in an ABC Motsepe League fixture at Coldstream Stadium on Friday.

The game was played in a good spirit, Highbury dominating the first half with three goals in the first half-hour through Abdurachman Moodien, Damian Christian and Luxolo Tobi.

Zimbane fought back, putting pressure on Highbury.

They were awarded a penalty just before half time but it was unsuccessful.

Zimbane brought in attacking players, but Highbury defended well.

The win keeps Highbury in third place with 33 points, two points behind Tornado, who are second.

Motherwell side Real City, who ended the first half of the season in 11th place, say they still harbour ambitions of winning the league this year.

They started the second round on a winning note with a close 3-2 victory against Kokstad Liverpool FC on Saturday at NU2 Stadium.

However, Morning Stars were beaten 6-0 by log-leaders Mthatha Bucks at Rotary Stadium on Saturday.

During the first half, the game was balanced, with both teams out for a win. It was Bucks who scored first.

The hosts came back stronger in the second half and overpowered Stars. Fans witnessed five more goals.

“We were beaten by the better team. They had more power in the second half. We just could not keep up.

“Our players need to concentrate till the referee blows the final whistle and put in more hard work. We will work on those things when preparing for our next game,” Morning Stars team manager Siyabulela Isaac said.

Subs were beaten 1-0 by bottom-of-the-league Cacadu United.
