PLATINUM Stars injected some life into their fight for survival as they recorded only their third victory at home this season against another relegation threatened side in Moroka Swallows yesterday.
An own goal by Dube Birds defender Rudi Isaacs a minute before half time was enough to seal a valuable three points for Dikwena in a dull encounter played in Phokeng.
Stars moved up one spot on the Premiership standings to 14th place and coach Allan Freese will be hoping they have turned the corner and rediscover the form which saw them finish eighth last season with two knockout competitions in their cabinet.
Stars knew there was no room for error and established an early foothold on home soil. They should have taken the lead through Eleazar Rodgers after 15 minutes, but the former Mamelodi Sundowns man watched as his header went wide of goal.
Swallows, who last won a league match on December 20 against AmaZulu, also had missed opportunities by Lerato Chabangu and Siyabonga Nomvethe.
Meanwhile, University of Pretoria beat Maritzburg United 1-0 at Tuks Stadium.
