Subs’ aim to keep clear of bottom half of league

NELSON Mandela Bay Motsepe League soccer side Subs are planning to stay as far away as possible from the bottom half of the league, club chairman Bhongo Zondani said.

The newly promoted side are in 10th place on the log, with 16 points from 11 games.

“Our plan for this season is to stay in the top eight,” Zondani said.

The Motherwell side were beaten 1-0 in their match against Mthatha Bucks, but Zondani said his team were caught off guard: “The guys are doing well, but our biggest problem is finishing,” he said.

“In our previous encounter against Mthatha Bucks, they scored just three minutes into the game when we had not settled in at the back.

“We were consistent after the goal and applied pressure, but luck was not on our side.”

Subs host La Liga today at NU2 stadium (6.30pm) and Zondani said they would be focused on an attacking approach.

“We plan to attack from the start and score at least three goals by the end of the first half before they settle in,” Zondani said.

“Since they [La Liga] will be travelling, we plan to use that to our advantage as the ninehour drive will be tiring,” Zondani said.

However the visitors have not lost a game in four matches.

They will come in oozing with confidence, after their recent 3-0 win over FC Buffalo.

In another game, Morning Stars, who have lost three consecutive games, will host third-placed Tornado.

“Tornado are a top team and we are not scared of them,” Stars team manager Siyabulela Isaacs said.

“We need to work extra hard and make sure we convert our chances.”

Isaacs believes they were punished in their last league match against FC Elliot due to missing chances.

“Our focus now is getting to the 10th place on the log. From there we will see what happens.”
