Kings want to ensure he’s fit for Currie Cup
THE EP Kings are keeping skipper Luke Watson and CJ van der Linde in cotton wool and neither of the Springboks has been included in the team to face the Free State Cheetahs in a friendly at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday night.
Officials said yesterday that Watson was only expected to return to the playing arena in the middle of the Vodacom Cup towards the end of next month.
The decision not to include Watson in the opener will surprise many fans, who had been expecting him to lead the team out after his long layoff because of injury.
The Kings clearly want Watson and Van der Linde to be firing on all cylinders when the Currie Cup Premier Division kicks off after the Vodacom Cup in August.
“Luke has fully recovered from the concussion he suffered last season,” Kings chief executive Charl Crous said.
“The medical staff have mapped out Luke’s re-entry into the team which will see him return during the middle of the Vodacom Cup competition,” Crous said.
