WSU host Spring Rose, while All Blacks top group
The teams in the Eastern Cape Super 12 rugby competition continue their search for glory this weekend, with a key fixture taking place between Spring Rose and Walter Sisulu University at the Berlin campus tomorrow.
In the third week of the provincial showpiece, Nelson Mandela Bay’s Spring Rose will be looking to maintain their momentum after getting their challenge back on track last weekend, but will not find it easy against an in-form student side.
The All Blacks have had a good start to the campaign and are at the top of the tough Group A.
It promises to be a thrilling affair as both sides like to play running rugby.
At the Humansdorp Country Club, Kruisfontein will host Progress, with the wounded home side eager to get back to the winning ways after suffering their first defeat against Rose last week.
Progress, who did not play last week, will be hoping to break Kruisfontein fans’ hearts by taking full points.
East London Police will welcome the struggling Buffalos at Police Park, Cambridge, in a match where the visitors will be hoping to turn their fortunes around after two defeats.
However, on paper, the hosts should be too strong for their East London neighbours.
In Group B, champions Gardens will be looking to hand Crusaders their second loss at the Uitenhage Central Field.
But Saders, who let slip a lead against the Brumbies last week, will be aiming for a better performance against the title favourites.
Matches between these sides always produce fireworks.
Saders go into the encounter eager to make a statement against the impressive hosts, while Gardens will aim to demonstrate that it was not by chance they dominated last season.
At the Grahamstown Oval, the Brumbies go head to head with Swallows encouraged by their resilient performance against Saders.
Their confidence will be on a high, while Swallows will be looking to avoid a second loss on the trot.
Breakers will entertain Berlin Tigers at Queenstown’s Mlungisi Stadium.
Kickoff is at 3pm in all the games.
- Meanwhile, teams competing in the Castle Lager Metro Super 14 will also be in action this weekend.
At Korsten’s Adcock Stadium, Zwide will tackle Young Collegians at 2pm, followed by Helenvale against Booysens Pride at 3.30. The last match sees Harlequins locking horns with Park at 5pm.
