Madibaz seek balance

Focus on attack and rock-solid defence

Eenergetic Madibaz rugby coach David Maidza wants his young team to find a good balance between attack and rock-solid defence during their FNB Varsity Cup campaign.

The success-hungry Madibaz start their quest for glory with a tough match against arch-rivals NWU-Pukke in Potchefstroom on February 9.

“I am hoping to have a good balance between attack and defence. We are looking at being able to defend first before we can attack, as all other coaches would,” Maidza said.

“For us it is going to be about our mobility around the field.

“We should be one of the teams up there for being mobile and getting numbers around the park.

“Pukke is a nice start for us and will enable us to see where we are. They always draw the previous year’s semifinalists against each other in the opening game,” Maidza said.

Another mouth-watering opening day fixture match-up pits champions UCT against Maties.

“This is a nicely balanced fixture list. Four of our seven fixtures are at home compared with three last year.

“We also had to play several away games on the trot, which was very demanding for the players,” Maidza said.
