Several Pearson water polo players excelled at the junior inter-provincial tournament in Johannesburg last month, with Matthew Petzer and Kelsey Vaughan being chosen for the South African U18 teams.

Thirty-six Pearson water polo players (24 girls and 12 boys) attended the national event.

Besides the achievements of Matthew and Kelsey, four other Pearson pupils, following an SA U17 camp, were chosen for the South Africa junior team to compete in the Zone IV tournament in Harare this week. They are Wade Ackermann, Hannah Werth, Jana de Jager and Ashleigh Vaughan, all members of Pearson first teams.

Pearson girls’ first team coach Luke Manthe will travel to Zimbabwe as assistant boys’ team coach.

It is a feather in the cap for Pearson water polo as it is the only Eastern Province school with representation in these sides.

It also has the biggest representation in the national teams, besides Cape Town school Reddam House.

Matthew has matriculated from Pearson. Kelsey is in matric this year.
