Chippa United chief executive Peter Koutroulis has confirmed the team’s signing of left-back player Ruben Cloete from Bloemfontein Celtic on Monday.
Cloete, 32, signed an 18-month contract deal with the Port Elizabeth-based Premiership side with a renewal option after the player’s falling out of favour at Celtic.
Cloete, who has also played for Orlando Pirates, Santos and Free State Stars, is expected to join his new teammates at the team’s training camp in Johannesburg today.
The Chilli Boys have decided to base their four-day camp after the league’s long break in Gauteng.
They will play friendly games against Premiership sides Platinum Stars, Mpumalanga Black Aces, National First Division outfit Jomo Cosmos and third-tier team Highlands Park.
“I can confirm that [Cloete] will be training with the team in Johannesburg [today] because the team is leaving Port Elizabeth for a fourday camp in Gauteng [today].
“We’ve also made requisition for Mamelodi Sundowns wing Bryce Moon, but his team is not saying whether they are selling him and he is with Sundowns in Mpumalanga.
“The transfer window is still open and the coach still has enough time to decide whether he wants to go to the market, but I can assure you that there are players who will be loaned to other clubs before the end of this month,” Koutroulis said.
United recently strengthened their defensive line with the signing of Cape Town All Stars right-back player Kristopher Bergman, who has a 2½-year deal with the Chilli Boys.
United has already loaned leftback player Thabo Maselwa to Durban National First Division outfit Royal Eagles for the rest of the season and defender Mpho Mvelase could be another player who might be on his way to Orlando Pirates before the transfer window period closes on January 30.
United will start their four-day training camp in Johannesburg with a friendly match against Cosmos at Rand Stadium today (3pm).
