There was some really good tennis played in a good spirit.
Andrew Stuart and Richard Bulbring took the A section honours as Sunridge Tennis Club hosted a highly successful men’s doubles tournament at PE Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday.
Sunridge have been organising this event for more than two decades and this year produced its biggest entry, with 80 players taking part.
“We even had some on the bench, so to speak,” tournament convener Ignis McLaren said yesterday.
Because of the size of the entry, Sunridge had to use the PELTC venue for the tournament and McLaren said the day produced some high quality tennis.
The couples were divided into three sections, with two pools in each section resulting in a final to decide the winners.
Stuart and Bulbring had an interesting contest against Steffen Solomon and Dudley Smith in the main final, eventually emerging as the champions by winning 6-4. The finals were played over one set.
In the B section, Patrick Grewar and Peter Sale took the honours over George Holloway and Mike Bladen, while Ronnie Victor and Gerhard van Greunen defeated Theuns Conradie and Jakes van Tonder in the C section final.
“We were delighted to have most clubs in PE and District represented and the event was a big success,” McLaren said.
“There was some really good tennis played in a good spirit.”
McLaren said the Sunridge Park club hoped to use the success of the event to attract new members to their club.
