BORDER all-rounder Gionne Koopman could land himself the job of filling Simon Harmer’s boots when the Chevrolet Warriors take on the Dolphins in a Sunfoil Series match starting in East London tomorrow.
The conditions at Buffalo Park will dictate what the make-up of the Warriors starting team will be, but Koopman looks sets to earn himself a debut in his hometown.
The 23-year-old off-spinner and left-handed batsman was yesterday named in a squad of 12 players for tomorrow’s fixture.
As expected, the Eastern Cape franchise will be without Proteas Simon Harmer and Wayne Parnell, both of whom are on international duty.
Warriors caretaker coach Malibongwe Maketa said Koopman would come into the reckoning if all the factors fell into place for him.
“I’ve gone with that team because CSA has not got back to me regarding our Proteas players. I doubt Simon Harmer or Wayne Parnell will be with us anyway, so that is what we have gone with,” Maketa said yesterday.
“It’s the first time I’ve worked with Koopman. He’s a promising offie and a top-order batter and we are looking at the options of replacing Harmer.
“There is a good chance he will play this weekend. We want to have a look at the conditions first though.
