Varsity aiming higher this year

NMMU Madibaz Football Club are optimistic about successfully defending both Pefa league titles with their premier and premier reserve teams this year. In addition, the club also aims to be part of the semiprofessional regional SAB league.

They have two senior teams playing in the Pefa league.

As winners of the premier league, Madibaz will be contesting the playoffs for the Safa-NMB regional SAB league in June.

“We would like to win the playoffs and have a team in the regional SAB league. This will extend the footprint of NMMU Madibaz football in PE and in the Eastern Cape,” NMMU sport manager Mark Tommy said.

Tommy says the Pefa achievements last year are remarkable and it must be remembered that the teams are made up of students only who also compete in multiple University Sport SA leagues.
