Kings pounce against Lions

Coach delighted with preparation for Cup opener

BUOYANT EP Kings coach Mzwandile Stick says his team’s hard-fought 13-8 win over a Golden Lions XV in a friendly at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at the weekend was just the tonic his men needed.

The Kings open their Vodacom Cup campaign against defending champions Griquas on Saturday.

After trailing 8-0 at half time, the Kings fought back in the second period to score their first win of the season.

“The one thing about this game was that we had to fight hard for the result before going into the Griquas game,” Stick said.

“I told the boys I know this is a friendly game but we need a win to take into the Griquas game because you do not want to go into that match with your heads down.

“I think the boys are going to start believing now that they can go all the way in this tournament.”
