Fiery debate around Watson’s return and form

LUKE Watson’s expected return from injury to lead the EP Kings against the Free State Cheetahs in a friendly next Friday at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium has stirred lively debate among Eastern Province rugby supporters.

After missing several matches last year because of a bad concussion, the 31-year-old Watson has been named in a 38-man Kings Vodacom Cup squad.

Questions have been raised as to whether Watson’s long-term injury will affect his performance and confidence once he is back on the field.

On the supporters Facebook page, Kings #Red&BlackArmy fans commented on the imminent return of the injury-plagued former Springbok and speculated on how he would perform after the long layoff.

“Good luck to Luke,” was the opinion of Tony Siepman, in response to a post and photo entitled “Luke Watson. The Return of the King.”

Deon van Zyl said: “Good news. I will reserve judgment. But I do hope for a full recovery. Only time will tell.”
